arm reliquary of st. blasius, c. 1077
Okay, not strictly the best picture. I had to get it from one of the powerpoints from my art history lecture. It's nowhere to be found on the internet (except a wee tiny one on wikipedia). Anyway, I love the way this looks: the multitudinous rings (offerings from the faithful, amassed over centuries) and then the two jeweled bands, one at the wrist and the other at the elbow with a long, diagonal band connecting them. I feel compelled to make something like this (to wear, that is), it's so new-agey-looking with all the rings, but still so fundamentally Medieval...

and now, for something completely different...
I'm kind of ... obsessed with home decor. Naturalist/Edwardiana/Steampunk home decor, specifically. Old bottles, geodes, shells, skulls, taxidermy, terrariums, moss, pitcher plants, maidenhair ferns, chesterfield couches, cage lights, etc. Every now and then I collect some small trifle that I will eventually be able to put next to my Albertus Seba prints when I finally have my own space to decorate.
From top left: cage lights, DL & Co. thorn apple candle, maidenhair fern, apothecary jars, butterfly, Lalique chandelier, bat plant, conichalcite, terrariums, 16th c. mounted nautilus shell, old medicine bottles, old books, chesterfield couch
