Time has flown. I graduated college and stopped caring about fashion for a while. But I'm back. For all none of you who read this, I've missed you. Things haven't changed much, I still like gothy looking shit, and will even when all magazines, runway shows, and uppity teen bloggers demand that I wear florals and pastels, or worse, anything from the early 1990s.

winter white, part I

There's nothing fresher, to me, than an all-white outfit. As someone who wears all-black, the allure of crisp whites, and the textures they show (as we all know, a lot gets lost in black on black) is undeniable. I've been trying to wear more white all winter - which is somewhat easier in California, given that the weather really never drops far below 60. My main point of struggle is bottoms. I kind of hate white pants. They look so ... ugh gauche. They look like Vegas in the Summertime to me - worn with some kind of hot pink, sparkly halter top and spangly jewelry. Maybe the answer is in Rue du Mail's suggestion of light gray pants (which I could definitely get behind). I also lack a solid white coat. I have a cream cashmere blazer, but that would clash with all my other whites. I think mismatched whites would look almost worse than unmatched blacks (I struggle with this often). I have some white dresses, but I find them frighteningly transparent. I have to just keep trying, and stop buying black. (Oh no!)

For the first time in a long time, Fashion Month has rolled around at a time when I'm not completely burned out on fashion. Normally I wait for the entire thing to be over before I even begin to look at the new offerings, which puts me way behind the fashion curve (oh no!). Anyway, I like what Preen has going on for fall: the very structured bustlines with draping coming off them, slashed stuff, heavy wool fabrics - the second and fourth dresses look like a very expensive cashmere coat. I just sort of want to rub my face in them. (Too much?)

This morning I watched a documentary about people who struggle with compulsive shopping, and I thought to myself, I really need to get to the mall. If that mall was Browns.

Preen Resort 2010. I have an almost unhealthy attraction to the outfit on the left. Or at least to those pants.

just a few things i wouldn't mind owning. clockwise: preen gray lace-up jacket (the closest thing i can find to the runway version), j dauphin chain necklace, ileana makri safety pin earrings (actually, i have a huge problem that these have the spring and so will sit funny in your ear), ann d lace up sandals, cropped leather jacket from oak, delfina delettrez skeleton bracelet/ring, the alexander wang goddess dress that i never god around to buying (fuuuuuck), ysl platforms (no one else will like these, but i don't care), persol sunglasses (frames should be rounder though, like the 914s), and rodarte slashed shirt.

I generally don't browse Revolve because of the sheer vast number of items is just too overwhelming. However, Forward by Revolve, all of the fancy stuff I can't afford, is much more fun to browse because it's much more tightly edited.

Some of my favorite items:

Ilaria Nistri is a goddess among women. If her website wasn't so difficult to use I'd be on it alllll day long. This jacket, in case you can't tell, is long and zips off to be very cropped at the waist. Love it more than I love my mom. Yeah, I said it.

Another Ilaria Nistri jacket, this one a suit jacket, from which the bottom is also removable for an ultra-cropped look. Yes.

Two jackets by Preen. Loving the ultramarine blue color and structural details on the left and the teensy leather biker jacket on the right. Considering how much preen makes me swoon, I might have to just start stalking the designers.

Top by SteveJ & YoniP. It reminds me a lot of Lanvin SS07, for obvious reasons, but I still like it rather a lot.

Yigal Azrouel knot tunic. It looks floaty and is the color of that mud they smear on you at the spa, what's not to love?

Jen Kao harness, which I think is made out of wool or some other suiting material. It's the closest to an updated vest of all of the harnesses I've seen lately.
